CSS Naked Day '08
Neo-Geek.net is getting naked to help promote web standards and accessibility
For those of you not familiar with CSS Naked Day, it is an international event started by Dustin Diaz to help promote web standards and accessibility with clean, style-free, and properly structured web sites. Anyone with a web site can participate by either manually removing any CSS references or using a plugin found on the official CSS Naked Day web site1. You can read more about the concept of separating presentation and content at wikipedia.
Favicache
Favicache is a Wordpress plugin that retrieves and stores favicons in a local cache
A little over two years ago I developed a Wordpress plugin called Favicache which retried and stored favicons for pages in your sites blogroll. Today I just released a new, more robust version of Favicache. It has been tested with all the major releases of Wordpress from the current release (2.5) back to 2.1 and in PHP 4 and 5 to ensure maximum compatibility with today's common web server. Currently, as the plugin is in it's first release, it will reside solely on Neo-Geek.net until I deem it ready for major public consumption. Please comment with any questions, suggestions and/or bug reports you have about this plugin here.
Nor Redesign, Nor Realign
A quick overview of the new site
Welcome to the latest iteration of neo-geek.net; my online sandbox, container of thoughts and knowledge. This version is powered by the Overseer Framework, a framework I developed to help speed up development of PHP based applications by removing the need for coding simple everyday functionality. The content of the site is managed by the Overseer CMS, which is also powered by the Overseer Framework.
As the title of this post suggests, I do not think of this as a redesign nor realign as the design and layout of the site are basically the same as before. While the code base got a complete refresh, the design was kept the same as I was content with the previous design layout. While the functionality of the site is still very similar, most of that functionality has been tailored to make the data contained in each section easier to manage. Below are a few of the sections explained in further detail.
